NEURO UPDATES have been held annually by the MADRAS NEURO TRUST for the past 5 years. Neuroscientists in Chennai formed the MADRAS NEURO TRUST under the chairmanship of Prof. G. ARJUNDAS with the principal aim of promoting academic activities for the benefit of the postgraduates and practicing neurologists.
Towards this purpose, the Madras Neuro Trust organizes the NEURO UPDATE annually as a continuing educational program for the practicing Neurologists and exposing the neurology residents to recent clinical research works being done world over.
Each year 3 or 4 themes are chosen and expert Neurologists/Neurosurgeons in the respective field are invited. Workshops are also held linked to these updates. We have had sessions on Pediatric Neurology, Epilepsy, Headache, Movement Disorders, Neuro-Ophthalmology, Mitochondrial Disorders involving the CNS, Neuromuscular diseases, Peripheral Neuropathy and Neuro infections.
In 2006 the trust conducted a highly successful Asia Pacific Stroke Congress covering all aspects of stroke with delegates attending from South and South East Asia. This year the themes were Movement Disorders, Demyelinating disorder of CNS and Cognitive Neurology.
Apart from a distinguished national faculty in the respective areas, Dr. Kailash Batia from UK, Dr.Gunther Deuschl from Germany, Dr.Geoffrey Shean from USA, Dr.Louis C Tan from Singapore discussed Parkinson’s Disease, Tremors & Dystonia. They also conducted a Botulinium Injection Demonstration and held a highly interactive video demonstration on multiple movement disorders.
Dr.Rieckmann from Germany and Dr.Burks from USA covered the different aspects of MS. ADEM and MS Mimics and discussed on several related case presentation. They also interacted with enthusiastic members of the local Multiple Sclerosis Society patients and their carers and the support group.
Dr.Jeffrey Cummings from USA and Dr.Christopher Chen from Singapore discussed dementias, cognitive impairment and analysis of Neuropsychiatry symptoms apart from highlighting the clinical approach to dementia on the patients presented.
Around 200-300 delegates from all over India attend these annual updates every year. |
